If the device is linked to a previous owner's account and they're close by, ask them to enter their Apple ID and password on the Activation Lock screen and remove the device from their account. Posted on May 30, 2020 11:11 AM. If the previous owner deleted their AppleID without first signing out of iCloud on that device, then there is no way to disable activation lock now. There is also nothing Apple can do to rectify that situation. iCloud must be signed out on the device before deleting an AppleID.

You need the Apple ID credentials, the holder of the Apple ID needs to release the lock remotely, or you need proof of original purchase or other ownership, documentation sufficient to convince Apple to release the lock. Same as the many previous responses., of course. Apple accepts recycling for free.
