If that doesn't work, you could always rip your CDs to your computer, and put them on a cheap MP3 player. I personally have had no trouble with the $20 ones (apart from the hard to read LED screens).

If you have mp3 files and want to fit a lot of them on one disc you need to make a data CD and then try it in your CD players to see if it works. Worst case you waste one blank CD.
I've found the drives formatted to fat32 play in most cars with a USB. I think you can format a FD up to 64gb with the fat32 format. I currently have several drives with various amounts of my music on them.
