The land was handed to the Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan and in return custodianship of the Shalimar Gardens, Lahore was granted to the family in 1641. [1] Descendants of the Baghbanpura's Mian family now live in new localities of Lahore but still own lands in the area and the historic family graveyard in Baghbanpura since early 16th century.
Mian Muhammad Shafi was born on 10 March 1869 in Lahore, the capital of the Punjab in British India. His father's name was Mian Din Muhammad and he belonged to the aristocratic Arain Mian family of Baghbanpura, Lahore. He was educated at Government College, Lahore as well as Forman Christian College, Lahore.
