The Union Stock Yard Gate, located on Exchange Avenue at Peoria Street, was the entrance to the famous Union Stock Yards in Chicago. The gate was designed by Burnham and Root around 1875, and is the only significant structural element of the stock yards to survive. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1981. [ 2]

History. The first gangs in Chicago were loosely organized groups of immigrant youth in the late 1800s. In 1910, Big Jim Colosimo founded the Chicago Outfit on the South Side. In the early 1950s, immigration to Chicago had picked up considerably, namely to the west side and parts of the south side with many coming from Puerto Rico.
