John Carlo Paul Goldberg [1] (born October 10, 1961) is an American legal scholar. He is the Carter Professor of General Jurisprudence at Harvard Law School. [2] Goldberg has served as the acting dean of Harvard Law School in place of John F. Manning since March 14, 2024, and as interim dean following Maning's August 15 appointment as provost of Harvard and resignation from the deanship.
He was recruited by then-Dean Elena Kagan to become part of the Harvard Law School faculty. [3] He teaches first year criminal law and upper level criminal procedure at Harvard Law School, where he is the director of the Criminal Justice Institute. He continues to write on the subjects of criminal law, criminal procedure, democracy, and race. [4]
In 1983, at age 23, Kagan entered Harvard Law School. Her adjustment to Harvard's atmosphere was challenging—she received the worst grades of her entire law school career in her first semester.
