The Charlotte Observer article about Harris Teeter's 50th anniversary doesn't mention Harris Super Markets being the first self-service grocer in N.C. Indeed, if A&P already had a store in Charlotte, it most likely would have been self-service. But I'm not certain, so I didn't delete that sentence from the "History" section.
The 59,306 square-foot store is under construction at 163 Sea Island Parkway. Harris Teeter also is planning to build a 1,476-square-foot convenience store/fuel station at the same location.
