There was crackle, crunchyroll (anime), a few others, most were pretty basic though - I call it the "netflix model" you get 1 movie for everybody that they like and then fill the rest with crap.

A Panasonic CT-27HL14. This is my first CRT so I have no other frame of reference but, I can already tell the difference from a normal modern tv. I’m already in love. Generally 4:3 HD sets are only good for 4:3 480p+. So not the best set for 240p/480i. Good starter set though.
well HDTV debuted in 1998, but the technology was in the works since (at least) the early 80s. The first American TV Station (located in the suburbs of Washington D.C. natch) began broadcasting in 1928. So they've been working on this shite for nearly a hundred years already.
