    Many tournaments were won with Winchester Model 12 Solid Rib trap guns. Few guns point as well and they have an instinctive feel about them. This particular gun was made in 1949 and, in fact, is marked “Trap” on the bottom by the serial numbers. Mechanics and the bore are excellent. The choke is unaltered full!

    The Model 12 works best with forward pressure on the slide, bang, pump, push forward and repeat. Try some dummy rounds and really rack the gun forward and see if it operates properly. These guns are old with some of the newest being 40 yrs old and many up to and over 100 years old.

    I think the OP was asking about the difference between a Y/M-12 straight trap stock and a field stock. Here is some more info from a 1974 WW catalog. Except for the LOP difference [and if the field gun had a 30" barrel] one could just put an adj. comb on a field stock to make that trap gun.

    WW stopped stamping MODEL-12-TRAP on the receiver extensions of Trap Grade Model 12's in 1950 around serial number 119xxxx and also stopped stamping SKEET under the serial number of model 12's at the same time. This gun is indeed a 3 Pin VR Trap Grade with Monte Carlo stock. Very nice gun!!! Now go shoot it a bit, better yet a lot....
