Abdul Khaleq was the founding editor and publisher of Azadi. At first the price of the magazine was two annas (12 paise). [3] After Khaleq's death, his son-in-law Md. Mohammad Khaled took over as editor in 1962. MA Malek has been in charge of the newspaper since 2003 after his death. [4] [3]

Muhammad was born at Musapur Union in Sandwip, Chittagong. His mother was Mahmuda Khanom and father was Moulavi Muhammad Yaqub. [2] He was an active member of Student Union of Chittagong committee in his student life. [2] He started working as the sub-editor of Dainik Azadi in 1964 and also joined in Radio Pakistan in that year. [2]
