About 90% of all the used gear I've checked out at Guitar Centers has something legitimately wrong with it. Atlanta Guitar Center had a used Nolatone amp for sale for about 2 or 3 years that didn't even work.
BTW, this is not the first time this has happened. This was basically the third guitar in a row that arrived in much rougher shape than described. In one of those cases, I even called the store and they mis-represented the guitar over the phone. Bottom line, do not trust Guitar Center's rating scheme regarding the condition of used gear.
Recently, they haven't been negotiating discounts on any used gear. I went to buy a used Soldano 2x12 - picture looked mint. Walked into the store - logo was gone, no ID plate of any sort on the outside of the cab. Just a GC tag saying "soldano cab."
You all must not know how to buy any guitars from Guitar Center. I got a really expensive guitar and amp not made a note cheap. 399 for the custom builder guitar. And under 200 for the amp. You all have played better than me and bought from guitar stores more than I ever have. Yes I had a acoustic guitars when I was 3 years old.
I had been browsing used amp prices from local individuals (Facebook Market Place and Craigslist) and later cross referencing those prices with Guitar Center's Used listings and I am seeing a lot of time those prices are very much in the ballpark of each other. Which has me thinking in some ways...
I would add GC used prices vary. I recently got a used guitar from GC and the same model was used in the same excellent condition from 6-7 different GC stores and there was at least 20% price difference. Search the same model and you might find it cheaper at another GC.
If a used item sits for 90 days or more, GC's home office does a review which usually ends up as a price drop. They also move used items to different GC outlets where there may be more of a buying clientele for that item. I've found that GC's used site pricing beats just about most online sellers.
FWIW, I went into my local GC last week to process a return and the used inventory was basically completely sold. Im guessing the COVID quarantine has helped them clear out their used inventory. I was shocked, the place was packed with used gear before. Really interesting IMO.
G'Day Guitar Center has a 30 day money back guaranty, even on used. I just bought a Gibson 333 from a GC in Texas..I live in LA and I had it shipped and I was told, if there were ANY issues within 30 days to bring it back to any GC for a refund, PERIOD!
Not sure how many know this but this is the second time I have returned a guitar within the 45 day return policy and within a day its back on the floor with a tag on it being sold as new. Only had the first one for 5 days but this last one I had for over a month and used it quite a bit.
