Yes, the pass through is absolutely absurb. Unfortunately, all gas companies charge some kind of charge. It's because Atlanta Gas Light (AGL) bills each gas marketer, and they in turn charge it to the customers. You can convert all of your gas to electric but it is extremely expensive. You may not recoup the costs from what you save on electric.

Somehow there's some gas smell from my outside porch lantern. This is a natural gas lantern and I haven't touched it since I bought the house (10 year old) a year and half ago. The gas is properly burning as far as I can see. I noticed the old gas mantles were damaged, so I replaced them with new ones but can still smell some gas.

A gas company would not run a gas line without an easement. Now if it was run illegally, by the homeowner, that is a different story, but thats a longshot. I've seen large sewer projects name an easement on every property getting sewer in one document and file it instead of a recording on each and every property.

The gas company can red tag a property, in which case, they turn off the meter and lock it and don't turn the gas back on until the problem is fixed. That doesn't appear to be what happened here. The gas company most certainly can not make a landlord buy a new stove. Gas stoves are extremely simple and easy to repair.

As soon as the gas company gets a majority of mineral rights owners to sign, they can drill whether or not you have signed. You simply lose out on the leasing fees and royalties, which can be substantial for even relatively small tracts of land. Remember, it is not the land which has value to the company, it is what is under it.

If the businesses are using a lot of gas (restaurant ovens, industrial equipment, big/older heating systems) there will be a faint hiss, multiplied by the number of active meters. But your gas company will never, ever mind if you ask them to take a look.

The gas company would not tell me anything, since the acct. is not in my name. They also would not allow me to put it in my name, since, as they explained, they already know there is a shared meter (which the landlord has said I was paying for, although I never agreed to pay for other people's gas.).
