The school trains students for careers in the shipbuilding industry.
Newport News Shipbuilding used a full-scale three-dimensional product model developed in Dassault Systèmes CATIA V5 to design and plan the construction of the Gerald R. Ford class of aircraft carriers. The CVN 78 class was designed to have better weapons movement paths, largely eliminating horizontal movements within the ship.
