Maui Jim. Maui Jim is an American sunglasses manufacturer based in Peoria, Illinois. [2] Founded in Lahaina, Hawaii, in 1980, the company designs, develops, and manufactures a wide variety of sunglasses marketed under the eponymous brand name. As of 2015, it was the third-largest producer of sunglasses in the world. [1]
Technology[edit] [1] Maui Jim lenses protect block 100% of all harmful UV rays and 99.9% of glare. The complex lens technology feature several layers of polarization. The two most outermost layers are a waterproof and oleo phobic coating. The oleophoobic coating repels grease, making the inside and outside of the lens water and oil proof.
Maui and Sons was established by three surfers from Malibu, California in 1980. Having previously tried various businesses that failed (including a cookie company), the group decided to create a surf apparel brand, and named it "Maui & Sons." The company's namesake is the Hawaiian island of Maui.
