Even tho the Forge team is working hard on 1.13 development, which is going well, we have almost all the final tools finished and the installer working, we have not left 1.12 stagnate. I can't seem to get Forge working with Optifine for version 1.12.2. I'm using OptiFine 1.12.2_HD_U_E3 which the changelog states is compatible with Forge #2795. Game keeps crashing when trying to load world. I have no other mods/shaders/resource packs installed.

Posted December 11, 2018. It is an issue from Optifines side, but it got fixed already. Update your optifine and it will work. Quote.

So I just installed minecraft forge for 1.12.2 yesterday and been trying to work, but each time I try to play it it either stops the launcher from responding or says the game crashed. I have tried deleting and then reinstalling multiple times. I'm on Windows by the way.

Since I'm becoming increasingly dubious that there's a good answer for dealing with that issue I'd like to just change the way I render things if OptiFine is loaded. This presents an issue because apparently OptiFine isn't actually loaded by Forge so something like Loader.isModLoaded("OptiFine") doesn't tell me anything.
