Website. oprymills .com. Opry Mills is a super-regional shopping mall in Nashville, Tennessee, United States. The mall was owned by the Mills Corporation and Gaylord Entertainment Company until 2007, when the Mills Corporation was acquired by Simon Property Group. It opened on May 12, 2000 on the former site of Opryland Themepark.
In its place, Opry Mills shopping mall was constructed and opened on May 12, 2000. On October 26, 2001, Gaylord Entertainment announced that its Opryland Hotels division (dba Opryland Lodging Group) would be renamed Gaylord Hotels, in advance of the Florida and Texas projects' completions.
Opryland USA (later called Opryland Themepark and colloquially "Opryland") was a theme park in Nashville, Tennessee. It operated seasonally (generally March to October) from 1972 to 1997, and for a special Christmas-themed engagement every December from 1993 to 1997. During the late 1980s, nearly 2.5 million people visited the park annually.
Many Nashvillians still mourn the loss of the Opryland USA theme park, which opened May 27, 1972. But where did all the rides go after it closed?
The park closed in 1997, but the boat remains in service, docking at Pennington Bend near the Opry Mills shopping center that replaced the park. In addition to Opry Mills, the dock is located near the Grand Ole Opry House and the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center. The original captains were Captain E.A. Poe and Captain William Howell.

Neighboring Opry Mills mall was also inundated, and remained closed until March 29, 2012. Flood walls would later be constructed around Gaylord Opryland and the Grand Ole Opry House (but not Opry Mills) to protect those properties from similar future flooding events.
