Jazz is a 2001 television documentary miniseries directed by Ken Burns. It was broadcast on PBS in 2001 [2] and was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series. Geoffrey C. Ward. Geoffrey Champion Ward (born 1940) is an American editor, author, historian and writer of scripts for American history documentaries for public television. He is the author or co-author of 19 books, including 10 companion books to the documentaries he has written. He is the winner of seven Emmy Awards.
He has worked with documentary filmmaker Ken Burns numerous times, narrating Burns' Jazz, Mark Twain, The War, Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson, Jackie Robinson and Muhammad Ali. David won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance for his work in The War and Unforgivable Blackness.
In 2001, Novick produced Burns’ 10-part series, Jazz. [2] Among her more recent collaborations with Burns have been The War (2007), Baseball: The Tenth Inning (2010), and Prohibition (2011). [3] Her next collaboration was an 18-hour documentary film series, The Vietnam War, with Burns and Geoffrey Ward, which aired in September 2017. [4]
Ken Burns has said that he chose the topic of the Shakers in large part because his first project, the Oscar-nominated Brooklyn Bridge, was devoted to urban American history; Shakerism offered him an opportunity to explore rural American history. [4]
