Name and history. It is one of twenty-seven Union Townships statewide. [5] The township was formed in 1836, while still part of Allen County. [6] One of its earliest settlers was Hugh T. Rinehart, who immigrated to the township in 1839. [7] His house is still in existence; it has been designated a historic site.
The Auglaize River ( Shawnee: Kathinakithiipi) [5] is a 113-mile-long (182 km) [3] tributary of the Maumee River in northwestern Ohio in the United States. It drains a primarily rural farming area in the watershed of Lake Erie. The name of the river was derived from the French term for it.
