Trans World Airlines (TWA) was a major airline in the United States that operated from 1930 until it was acquired by American Airlines in 2001. It was formed as Transcontinental & Western Air to operate a route from New York City to Los Angeles via St. Louis, Kansas City, and other stops, with Ford Trimotors.
It's been nearly two decades since American carrier Trans World Airlines flew its final official flight in December of 2001. However, having been in operation for 70 years, the airline joins the company of Pan Am as an icon of America's golden age of aviation and a pioneer of commercial passenger travel.
