Rahsaan Roland Kirk (born Ronald Theodore Kirk; August 7, 1935 [1] – December 5, 1977), [2] known earlier in his career simply as Roland Kirk, was an American jazz multi-instrumentalist who played tenor saxophone, flute, and many other instruments.
As a teenager, he started an auto-detailing company [2] and played in a jazz band at Montgomery Blair High School. [3] Subsequently, Johnson studied music production at the University of Miami. [3] Johnson earned a bachelor of arts degree in music at Howard University, where he was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.
