In 1926, the Boulder Community Hospital was dedicated with 45 beds at 1100 Balsam Avenue, north of downtown Boulder. [2][3] Beginning in 1955, Boulder Community Hospital raised funds to expand. By 1974, the hospital had a capacity of 172 beds and was seeing more than 14,000 emergency department patients annually. [2]
On November 4, 1959, the City Council voted to provide bonds of $450,000 to fund design and construction. The final cost of the building was $486,437.19. The library was dedicated on November 12, 1961. In late 2013, the main library temporarily housed the Boulder City Council while renovations are made to the main council building.
