For one, you're actually able to filter the loader and game version separately when looking for mods, making it far easier to find mods for your pack instead of dealing with Curse's absurd search engine where you either see the mods for the loader you want but for all game versions, or just one game version but you will see mods for both loaders on it.
Modrinth vs Curseforge is basically the website equivalent of Fabric vs Forge. Modrinth is faster, cleaner, more reliable, and open source. Because it's run openly by members of the community, it leaves more of the pie to give to mod developers (probably, hard to measure) Ideally, use Modrinth to download everything.

Since Sodium, Iris and Mod Menu are pulled from CurseForge, you cannot update your modpacks as CurseForge does not allow archived/removed files to be included in new files. PSA: Avoid Overwolf software with alternative launchers. Tips. Currently there is 1 good option available and a close 2nd. Both allow instances (separate version and modpack installations that do not interfere with eachother). Both allow granular mod enabling/disabling as well as drag+drop mod jar installation.
