From a memory standpoint, a 64 bit VLC can access more memory. My last 32 bit VLC from much earlier in the year was not Large Memory Aware, so it is capped at 2GB. If it was large memory aware, it could access up to 4GB on a 64 bit box with sufficient memory. For what I do, the 32 and 64 bit versions performed identically.

Passthrough means VLC will just forward the audio data to your sound device (usually an AV amplifier) which will decode it itself. In this case, VLC doesn't decode nor output any audio data, and can't adjust the volume (or at least this is my understanding)

Has the videolan project stopped compiling VLC for 64-bit systems? I can only find the 32-bit program. The last 64-bit program appear to be 2.1.4 I am unable to search for 64-bit, as the search program will not accept 64.
For the 64-bit version of VLC I had to install the 64 bit version of Java. Then I used this command in a command prompt: set "JAVA_HOME=C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_251"

Background: I have a 64-bit version of Windows and VLC installed, the 32-bit version. That installs to "C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC", the default directory. The player works fine as a standalone application. I am trying to integrate VLC into my Java SWT application using VLCJ. The Java application uses the 64-bit version of Java.

I did install VLC using the 64 bit installer vlc-3.0.6-win64.exe. And, I installed The NuGet package VideoLAN.LibVLC.Windows -Version 3.0.6 via the package manager console in VS 2017. But, I am unable to add a reference to my project.
