Cars on our Railroad. Most of the railcars you see moving along our rail lines carry various commodities such as corn, soybeans, aggregate, lumber, ethanol, propane, manufactured goods, or refridgerated goods. Each car is designed differently in order to most effectively haul its freight.
Track & Rail Infrastructure. The Aberdeen Carolina & Western Railway has 150 miles of quality rail infrastructure. We have 141 lb. continuous welded rail on many sections of our railroad, which means dependability and safe handling for our customers.
We offer personal service to all of our customers, both big and small. We are one of the few shortline or regional railroads that has the industrial sites, facilities, equipment, and manpower to provide rail services for any type of industry.

The Aberdeen Carolina & Western Railway Company runs from Charlotte, NC to Pinehurst and connects to Norfolk Southern and CSX Transportation.
We use our locomotives to haul freight from the customer to the interchange with our Class I rail partners. Occasionally, you may see GE locomotives on our rail line as part of our run-through power agreements for handling unit trains with CSX Transportation.
Paying for the siding is driven by a combination of state and local funding options, which are in turn a function of jobs, investment, and future taxes. In rare cases, with enough volume (2,000 or more railcars annually), railroads can pay for a portion of the siding construction costs.
