They cite security but frankly they often only know what block of track is occupied and almost never know where the trains are exactly. PTC is changing some of that but still, its kept internal for security reasons. www.opentraintimes.com for the UK but most freight operators get their IDs obsfucated.
Basically the rail equivalent of Flightradar24 etc. Would be neat to see a train go by and be able to know where it’s coming from, where it’s going, loco info etc. Thanks! There is not. Freight carriers point to Homeland Security concerns over letting out information on trains carrying dangerous materials.
A little bit of image processing would let you approximate the speed, at least during the day. On a double-track line, you wouldn't be able to see the far train unless you had multiple cameras. Finally, some freight cars have RFID tags on them, for a system called Automatic Equipment Identification.
4. Reply. [deleted] • 2 yr. ago. Nope, it’s next to impossible to access a freight railroad’s schedule (assuming you live in the United States) unless you work for the railroad or are a customer that ships/receives cargo from them. Your best bet is to take a look on social media and see what there is for the rail lines in your area, or ...
You can get live tracking for manned aircraft, commercial, private and government, but not passenger trains which would benefit a lot more people. Welcome to 21st century Melbourne. Reply reply
The closest we have to an accessible train tracker is Amtrak's tracker, accessible off their website and Heritage Units for specialty locomotives. I’m really interested in this too. We have a track right by our house and they pass through regularly. I’d love to see where they’re going and what they are.
In Australia, many suburban and regional passenger trains are able to be viewed on AnyTrip, which is a public transport live tracker. It also includes light rail/tram, bus, and ferry. Currently it has tracking in New South Wales/ACT, Victoria, Brisbane, and Adelaide. The system is also used in New Zealand. 2.
Currently private in protest of the upcoming 3rd party changes. Toyota VIN Tracker (Allocation, Delivery, etc) I wanted to be able to track the delivery of my new highlander since I got the VIN for it, but the current known method is very janky, since you have to inspect the Toyota API call from the guest.dealer.toyota.com website yourself and ...
Yeah, I wish I lived near some tracks but the closest tracks I live to are like 2 miles but those aren't used very often away from me and the mainline that connects my city to others is 3-4 miles from me. I know when the daily Amtrak trains come but I want to catch some freight trains in the future.
ATCS Monitor will allow you to "track" trains in your area as long as another railfan has set up the equipment and is streaming online. Or you could shell out some cash and set up your own server. ATCS Monitor basically takes the data that goes back to the railroad dispatchers and replicates the screen that they see.
