The MU-X is a product from the collaboration between General Motors and Isuzu. As the result, it shared its platform with the Chevrolet Trailblazer and Holden Colorado. Due to an agreement with GM, the Trailblazer was released prior to the MU-X. In Australia, it was launched in December 2013.
The Isuzu D-Max is a pickup truck manufactured since 2002 by Isuzu Motors. A successor of the Isuzu Faster/KB, the first and second-generation model shares its platform with the Chevrolet Colorado. The third-generation model shares its platform with the third-generation Mazda BT-50, which is produced in the same Isuzu plant in Thailand.
It was used in the Isuzu D-Max LT 4X4 model, produced in Thailand and Australia, as well as in the related Holden Rodeo and first-generation Chevrolet Colorado. The original version is still used in the South African version of the new D-Max, the Isuzu KB, and with the compression ratio reduced to 16.0:1 in the Thai-market D-Max X-series.

The three-door MU was introduced in 1989, followed in 1990 by the five-door version called Isuzu MU Wizard. Isuzu has assembly and manufacturing plants in Fujisawa, which have been there since the company was founded under earlier names, as well as in the Tochigi and Hokkaidō prefectures.
