First flight of Blue Moon is 12 months away but Blue Origin is planning 2 flights of New Glenn this year. The first flight is known to be the 2 Escapade satellites and it was assumed that the second flight would be the Blue Moon pathfinder flight as Blue Origin stated it was planning 2 pathfinder flights on the Blue Moon Mk1 for the Sustainable HLS contract, one in 2024 and another in 2025.

New Glenn is 96m tall total, 7m tank diameter with LEO payload capacity of 45k kg and GTO payload capacity of 13k kg. Falcon Heavy is 70m tall, 3.66m diameter for each booster, with LEO payload capacity of 63.8k kg and GTO payload capacity of 26.7k kg. I just realized why as i typed this out - FH has 2 boosters, more fuel, more capacity, etc.

  4. How Does Blue Origin Plan To Land New Glenn’s Booster?

    www.reddit.com/r/BlueOrigin/comments/xw87ds/how_does_blue...

Since New Glenn was practically announced, the plan has been for the first stage to be reusable. Specifically, Blue Origin wanted to land this 60 meter tall booster on a moving ship out at sea. The company even purchased a cargo ship and worked to refit it as a mobile landing platform in the ocean for future New Glenn launches.

A more accurate comparison would be a Boeing 737 MAX (New Glenn) and a Airbus A380 (Starship). One took forever to make it to market and had significant hardware issues but was targeting a known profitable segment of the market and now has thousands of orders when the hardware issues were fixed.

First, the company's engineers need to fully assemble a New Glenn rocket and raise it on the company's sprawling seaside launch pad at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. There's a good chance of this happening in the coming months as Blue Origin readies for a series of tanking tests and simulated countdowns at the launch site.....

This line of reasoning also suggests that, for example, F9 wouldn’t launch small payloads that could’ve gone on F1. Blue are aiming for New Glenn to be cheap to launch, and if it’s cheaper than Vulcan then they will launch all smaller payloads than Vulcan on New Glenn. $20M for ESCAPADE is an example.

We plan to fly New Glenn for the first time before the end of this decade from historic Launch Complex 36 at Cape Canaveral, Florida. New Glenn is designed to launch commercial satellites and to fly humans into space. The 3-stage variant – with its high specific impulse hydrogen upper stage – is capable of flying demanding beyond-LEO missions.

  11. Why is New Glenn so big? : r/BlueOrigin - Reddit

The markets New Glenn is now designed for are the dual GTO launch (targeting Ariane 5), constellation launches, NSSL and Blue's own architecture launches. Having a bigger vehicle helps out in all these respects arguably, so I don't think the uprate is too negative.
