The 20-acre (81,000 m 2) plot on which the school is situated cost $35,000. The school opened in the fall of 1940 with fifty faculty members and 1,250 pupils. In 1959, Kenmore East High School was opened as the district continued to grow. At that time, the Highland Parkway school officially became Kenmore West High School.
Jefferson Elementary School (250-262 Athens Blvd, Buffalo, NY 14223) Built and opened in 1956, closed in 2013. The district rents the space to the Ken-Ton Closet and the Town of Tonawanda Youth/Teen Center. Currently operating as Northmore Nursery School.
