Branch Detailiing is where the cadet's assigned Branch (e.g. Military Intelligence) loans the newly minted 2LT to one of the MFE Branches for Basic Officer Training and then first duty: (Infantry, Armor, Chemical, or Field Artillery) for the first 24-36 months of the 2LT's career.

    My daughter is interested in Military Intelligence and that is a branch where you can branch detail into one of the combat armss branches, who do need many junior officers. It helps guarantee getting MI as a branch after a few years and provides the Army with the junior officers they need.

    Deciphering the nuances of army branches seems to be giving MBA admissions a lot of credit. The earlier responses about selection bias make sense to me. If you do well in your branch and your GMATs and have strong recommendations, I would think you'd be well-positioned for a top 7 school.

    That means you will interview with a group of senior leaders in Cyber and they will then have a chance to assess you based on your talent/personality and other factors to determine if you would be a good fit for Cyber branch. Cyber branch actually piloted this for the Army and all branches are moving that direction now. Good luck

    They will not care. To most civilian admissions committees, the Army is the Army. They have no idea of what branches are and will assume you led soldiers who have different tasks to complete. An army officer tends to be a generalist. What that means is despite the fact you are in different branches, most LTs will be doing the same similar tasks.
