    If you turn on the "Edit Text & Images" in the "Tools" panel in Adobe Acrobat, you should be able to select text inside highlighted region and right-click to do cut/copy/paste. I just tried on my laptop using Acrobat 11.0. Hope this can solve your problem. Not sure if Adobe Reader can do the same.

    Copy and paste doesn't work on pdf files. I have a windows 10 machine. When I try ctrl+a'ing, copying, and pasting an entire 400 page document, it HIGHLIGHTS everything, but when I copy , I notice that my cpu gives little effort and sure enough, when I paste, I figure out that it just decided to randomly take a small chunk off of a couple of pages.
