To do job the right way just lay the fin on the wing surface and mark with a pencil the foot print. Using a Dremel tool with a brush tip or sand paper wheel just remove the paint within the marked perimeter.

It bubbled paint off aluminum in short order. I have no idea what it was but if I was stripping a plane I'd go talk to a pro painter and find out.

Cheapest way to get a good paint job is to use AwlGrip and roll and tip using foam rollers and a badger brush just damp with retarder, just clean all chip edges and fill with spot putty, wipe down with wax remover, smooth and scuff the paint, then roll on a new coat. Thing is if you don't strip it, you add the weight of a second paint job.

Feb 14, 2018. #11. If you just want it to work, paint it over the old stuff. It's gonna look like a cobblestone street but you won't slide off the wing.
