This enchanting ride through the beautiful Des Moines River Valley features historic 1950’s passenger cars used on the Union Pacific Railroad’s famous “City of Los Angeles” and “City of San Francisco” streamliners, which traveled between Chicago and the west coast.
The railroad over which we operate got its start in 1893. Fraser had just become the center of the newly discovered coal deposits and transportation was needed to move the coal. A line was built about 4 miles to the west from Fraser to connect with the Minneapolis & St. Louis Railroad at Fraser Junction, which is now called Wolf.
Enjoy a delicious lunch on the rails as you travel through the beautiful Des Moines River Valley in climate controlled comfort aboard the historic “City of San Francisco” or “City of Los Angeles” cars. This train crosses the 156′ tall Bass Point Creek High Bridge, as well as the Des Moines River, on its journey through the river valley.
Climb aboard for a trip to the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad’s pumpkin patch, October 5, 12, and 19. At the patch, kids hop off the train, and select that perfect pumpkin. Then, pumpkins in hand, settle back for the return trip to Boone.

In 2002, the unit was purchased by the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad, and painted into a Chicago & North Western-inspired paint scheme, while retaining the number 6540. The unit is used to power the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad’s Wolf trains.
