A friend needed a roof/floor in his winery business office and liked our groined vaults. Our crew went and did some simple vaults. We didn't do the walls or columns, or clay brick gable ends . just the vaults. The second floor will be the same type ceiling roof but will be mostly open as a sundowner terrace. Good exposure for us (if people go to buy his wine), and not near as expensive as the ...
Hi craftsmen, I'm doing a pretty cool project right now. I'ts a 12x12 inside dem. wine cellar with a ribbed groin vault ceiling.... all brick ceiling and all.I'm using thin brick over 6" c.m.u. for the walls and thin brick over framing for the ceiling.I will post pictures as I go along.
I posted long ago about how to cut the groin bricks. I figured out something that worked. and it came out like this. Then over this ground floor I wanted to make one groined vault 6m square, starting at same level as floor and rising steeply. (first yes yes yes, i had the calculations for these thrusts done and ring beam designed.) I couldn't sleep for 6 months trying to figure out how to cut ...
Our first job, remove 2000 pound night drop box incased in 6 feet of concrete, block up and brick the hole, form new opening for atm walk up out of block and brick, saw cut curb and repour sidewalk.
I participated in 2 similar jobs last year. One was vaulted ceilings using full sized old Chicago brick in a a barrel vault throughout the house. The other used the same brick which we cut thin, in various vaulting patterns. Even with the high per square foot of the thin brick, it was almost 1/3 cheaper per square foot installed, and actually looked better, since the real brick required ...
2) Buy a pre-cast vault, set in place. Cost: $14,300 plus I install internals, and rodding. 3) Buy a precast vault with everything installed complete inside with pipe sticking outside of vault and set in place. Cost: $24,000. Everything is 6" DICL and it is a 21' long vault. I haven't gotten a price on the internals yet, but I am thinking the ...
I had 2 commercial "wrinkled tin" buildings covered by a friend (mason contractor) and he told me after he was done that I should get a siding contractor because his guys were try to build something instead of hanging the Nova Brik just like siding on battens. Dick. Engineer, designer and consultant recently active domestically and ...
I am trying to add a brick veneer to my addition that I am building. In lieu of making a footing 30 inches for the brick, I was going to attach angle iron to the structure and start laying the brick on that. What does it mean that the angle has to be bolted to double studs? I was just going to bolt to my rim joist. Here is what the code says: 1). R703.7.2.1 Support by a steel angle: The ...
Thin Brick Mortar is made of natural materials, so it's a lot easier to work with than regular mortar. It also sets quickly, so you can start building right away!
