The basics. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia written by volunteers to help people gain useful knowledge. Our encyclopedia is pretty comprehensive, but that does not mean we would cover every single topic that exists. Wikipedia is not a social media, a place for promotion or advocacy, nor a place to announce new unpublished theories.

Contents. Wikipedia:Article Layout Template. This is a dummy article to help you get started with creating pages in the wiki. The first paragraph is usually a short dictionary-style definition of the subject matter. The gives the reader a quick answer, which may be all they required, and reassures them that they have come to the right page.
Edit screen (s) Editing most Wikipedia pages is simple. Wikipedia uses two interface methods: classic editing with the Source Editor through wikitext (wiki markup), and a new VisualEditor (VE). Wikitext editing using the Source Editor is chosen by clicking the Edit source tab at the top of a Wikipedia page (or on a section-edit link ).
To get there, type "Template:foo" in the search box (see search), or make a wikilink like [[Template:foo]] somewhere, such as in the sandbox, and click on it. Once you are there, just click "edit" or "edit this page" at the very top of the page (not the documentation edit button lower down) and edit it in the same way that you would any other page.
