14th Street is a major crosstown street in the New York City borough of Manhattan, traveling between Eleventh Avenue on Manhattan's West Side and Avenue C on Manhattan's East Side. It forms a boundary between several neighborhoods and is sometimes considered the border between Lower Manhattan and Midtown Manhattan .
The 14th Street station is a local station on the IND Sixth Avenue Line, and has two side platforms to the inside of the tracks. The station is served by the F at all times [93] and by the M on weekdays during the day. [94] It is between 23rd Street to the north and West Fourth Street–Washington Square the south.
The 14th Street station was the only stop on the Eighth Avenue Line that provided a free transfer to another subway line, the Canarsie Line, from the outset. The New York Herald Tribune described the 14th Street station as one of three "showplaces" on the new IND line, the others being the 59th Street and 42nd Street stations.
