I am from Tampa and would frequent Thompson. They had a great circular with vibrant ads. Locally they had a decent humidor with a wide variety of sticks. Then they sold to CI. The catalog is now flimsy, printed on low quality paper with lifeless photography. And none of the house brand cigars are available at the new CI locations in Tampa.
Thompson is a company of ill-repute and their "great deals" are just shit to peddle. Lets assume that the humidor costs $4 to make and that the lighter costs $3. 12 cigars for $22 so less than $2 per stick and they are still making profit on this somehow.
I saw a ad in a mailer for 20 cigars a lighter cutter and a humidor. This is what got me into cigars a few months ago. One cigar in the original order I liked so much I bought a box. Victor Sinclair double maduro. Couldn't find them anywhere else but Thompson cigars. No issues with ordering.
Thompsons is horrible. I had an experience with Cigar.com that really made me a long time customer. About a year ago, I heard they were having a sampler package deal on Acid Kuba Kuba. $50 for 10 cigars, a Cigars.com branded humidor, and a pretty decent cutter.

I do not remember ever signing up for this monthly charge and it looks like it is a charge attached to some rewards program.
