Coordinates: 32.1161977°N 110.7718469°W. Rita Ranch is a masterplanned community located in southeastern Tucson, Arizona. It is served by the Vail School District. [ 1] It borders the small towns of Vail and Corona de Tucson. Many military families from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base live in the area. The population was estimated at 18,925 in 2007.
The base was named in honor of World War I pilots Lieutenants Samuel H. Davis (1896–1921) and Chief Engineer Oscar Monthan (1885–1924), both Tucson natives. [3] Monthan enlisted in the Army as a private in 1917, was commissioned as a ground officer in 1918, and later became a pilot; he was killed in the crash of a Martin B2 bomber in Hawaii on March 27, 1924.
The Ronstadt House – built in 1904 and located at 607 N. 6th Ave. The House was designed and built for Fredrick Ronstadt, a Tucson pioneer, wagon maker, hardware company owner, and Tucson's first automobile dealer.
