If you were thinking of trading cars for RL cash, then not only will R* lose their minds and have you killed, but you'd only be able to charge as much as one card, as charging more would make the cash card the more attractive offer - why pay someone $25 for a Cheetah ...
You cannot sell cars as Michael, Franklin or Trevor. You can only sell cars in online mode. 1. The regular online mode is a public server with you and other players. 2. Invite only session is a like a private server for you only but you can also invite friends. The solo session is a server with you only, no other players.
It's actually once every in game day which is 48 minutes. Different cars also sell for different amounts. You can check out my thread here where I've been gathering tips and tricks to help everybody out who managed to get in by now. 7 years later...
1: it's a duplicate stand alone usually= "can't sell vehicles over $50k". 2: a copy over car dupe, a replacement of another car like an elegy or a rusty rebel (this will sell like a bought car) Edited August 28, 2017 by deadx23.

Sellers remorse is a real thing in GTAO. Youre losing a huge amount of online cash by selling current inventory in order to purchase new inventory. Not worth it in the long run especially if you end up disliking the newer inventory. I sell old race cars that have become redundant but otherwise I keep everything.
Posted October 15, 2013. yeah i can confirm that you can overwrite elegys in garage by replacing it with a different car. if you have modified an elegy that you wish to keep, and have extra unmodified versions that you wish to delete, then, 1. make sure your garage is full. 2. destroy the elegy (s) that you dont want.
The OP is asking "how do I sell a car when LSC gives me a message that my car cannot be sold because it's worth more than $50,000." And yes, that still happens sometimes. Don't be dense. Pretty much I've been able to sell super cars in the past but now all it gives is that message..
