Ivanhoe is joined by the mysterious Black Knight, and Bois-Guilbert and the Normans are defeated. Episode 3: Wounded in the tournament against the Normans, Ivanhoe is tended to by the beautiful healer Rebecca, daughter of Isaac of York. Meanwhile, Bois-Guilbert schemes to steal Rowena for one of his cohorts.
Bois-Guilbert and Ivanhoe are unhorsed by each other's lances in the first joust. Ivanhoe rises quickly to finish the fight by sword; however, Bois-Guilbert, suffering from the severe inner conflict of his love for Rebecca and his honor as a knight, dies from emotional turmoil. Ivanhoe and Rowena marry and live a long and happy life together.

The Ivanhoe films are based on the novel by Sir Walter Scott. The novel has been made into a film several times; starting with two adaptations in Ivanhoe (in the US and UK) in 1913. In MGM's 1952 version of Ivanhoe, Robert Taylor and Elizabeth Taylor played Ivanhoe and Rebecca, while Joan Fontaine was Rowena. George Sanders also co-starred.
