Charlotte Canda (February 3, 1828 – February 3, 1845), sometimes referred to simply as " Miss Canda ", [3][4] was a young debutante who died in a horse carriage accident on the way home from her seventeenth birthday party in New York City. She is memorialized by a Victorian mausoleum in Green-Wood Cemetery by Robert Launitz and John Frazee.
Description and history. The sculpture was commissioned in 1859, modeled in 1864, and cast and dedicated in 1869. The bronze measures approximately 22 x 6 x 15 ft, and rests on a granite base that measures approximately 16 x 8 x 15 ft. It was surveyed by the Smithsonian Institution 's "Save Outdoor Sculpture!" program in 1993.
