Hmmm, it occurs to me that someone could get into HDTV for the first time with a very minimal investment using Cox, which is what they claimed. A 21" CRT computer monitor ($550), a component to RGB converter ($100ish), and a Cox HD subscription would be all that's necessary for the video, and then for sound maybe a home-theater-in-a-box ($600ish.)

Currently I have only analog TV's but I also have the E* DVR 622. I cannot tell any difference on the S-video output. I was wondering how it looks to those with real HDTV screens. BTW: I can see a big difference between anything that is true HD vs. anything SD on my analog set, that is why I rarely watch the SD locals.
This is great news - HDTV is alive in Western NY! Can anyone get the signal in Rochester, NY? If not, I guess I'll have to drive to Buffalo, put up an antenna, and record some stuff on my htpc. I'm thinking CSI on Thursday night, but I'd really appreciate it if someone can confirm that it'll be on in HDTV. Thanks in advance, Ron
Does anyone know of an inexpensive and (if outdoor is necessary) unobtrusive antenna for OTA HDTV? I'm only looking to receive the main three networks: NBC, CBS, ABC. My own research indicates that a Channel Master 3021 might work or perhaps an indoor Zenith Silver Sensor. I'd prefer the indoor option for aesthetic reasons if possible.

Either way, I'd really encourage you to get an HDTV receiver. CBS, NBC and ABC all have HDTV signals on air locally. Furthermore, with a satellite receiver you can get HD Showtime, HBO and (with DirecTV) Mark Cuban's HDnet. Discovery HD is coming on June 17th too. Oh yeah, there may be a cheaper way to get HDTV on your Pioneer!

The "receiver" is the General Insrument HDD-200. It is a DigiCiper HDTV decoder used by COX for HD cable and with the 4DTV C Band (Big Dish)satellite receivers, so keep in mind that there is a larger base out there for this box that the Omaha COX test market niche. The price has come down significantly since it was first introduced also.
