University of Ilorin, also known as UNILORIN, is a federal government-owned public-research university in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. [2] [3] The university's main campus sits on an expansive area of land, about 15,000 hectares in the ancient city of Ilorin; making it the largest university in Nigeria and one of the largest in Africa by landmass.
Ilorin was founded by the Yoruba, one of the three largest ethnic groups in Nigeria, in 1450. [4] It became a provincial military headquarters of the ancient Oyo Empire, and later became a Northern Nigeria protectorate when Shehu Alimi, an itinerant Islamic preacher and teacher, took control of the city through the spread of Islam.
He served as the pioneer Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at Osun State University from 2012 to 2014, and was appointed by the federal government as the Provost of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, from 2014 to 2018. He was a federal government appointee on the Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro from 2017-2020.
