  3. Human Read vs Computer Generated (TTS) Audiobooks

    forum.librivox.org/viewtopic.php?t=84706

Text-to-speech (TTS) technology speaks aloud digital text using a computer-generated voice, or a highly manipulated human voice. There are plenty of websites and software programs out there where you can convert text to an MP3 file. There’s a lot of money to be made commercially by having TTS systems sound like real people.

  4. All our files are in the public domain, which means we relinquish all rights to the files. So anyone may use them for any purpose, including commercial uses, such as selling on ebay. We do prefer that people acknowledge that these are LibriVox files, but we can't and don't enforce that (public domain means people don't have to acknowledge us).

  5. 1. The main language of the forum is English. This means that most posts about LibriVox, questions about how it works, etc. should all be in English. The reason is that most of our moderators are English-speaking, and we need to be able to answer questions, and monitor what's going on on the forum.

  7. Already found a few Tom Sawyer examples, but one book I know is public domain that we use is A Book of Discovery by M. B. Synge. He's reading it on his iPad, but it's definitely a book that would be a good read-aloud. If no one picks this up in a timely manner, I may just have to set aside some extra time and read to him myself.

  8. Books on elocution and orthoepy - LibriVox Forum

    forum.librivox.org/viewtopic.php?t=22139

There are 19th century American books on elocution as well as British books on elocution. I think we could separate these as two distinct methods of elocution. American elocution teaches a more "standard" American accent. British elocution books teach the Received Pronunciation spoken by the Queen and upper classes of England to this day.

  9. Reading speed visualizer - LibriVox Forum

    forum.librivox.org/viewtopic.php?t=96353

My unhindered read-aloud speed is about 180-190 WPM, but I'm trying to stay around 150-160 wpm. I tried to find something online that would do what I wanted, but all search results were for speed reading, and reading faster, go figure. So I made my own. I hope someone else might find it useful.
