Bucerías, Nayarit. Bucerías meaning "Divers town" ("diving "), is a small Mexican beach resort town in the state of Nayarit on a stretch of Pacific coast known as the Riviera Nayarit, on and in the Bay and municipality of Banderas, between La Cruz de Huanacaxtle and Nuevo Vallarta. Its former name was Santa Julia de las Tablas.
The Municipality of Bahía de Banderas in Nayarit state has a total area of 773.3 km 2. It was created in 1989. Its westernmost headland is Punta Mita, to the south it is on the Bahía de Banderas, and northwards it is on the open Pacific Ocean. The municipality had a population of 83,739 in 2005 (59,808 in 2000).
Valle de Banderas, locally known as El Valle, is a small town is located at the foot of the Vallejo Mountains. It is located around 20 miles (32 km) inland from the Pacific Coast at Bucerías and had a population of 5,528 in 2000. Historical crops still being cultivated in the valley include tobacco, corn, beans and chiles.
