Just tried to do my monthly backup and the following occurred. "Time Machine did not finish backing up because some files were unavailable. Backups will resume when your Mac is unlocked". There is 1.84GB of unused space on my '2TB WD My Passport for Mac' backup disc. I am using Big Sur 11.7.1 on...

If you're having difficulties with Time Machine it's best to start a new thread. And unless you're running out of space on your external hard drive, it's probably best to back everything up. If you ever need to restore in the event of a hard drive crash, a complete backup will work best. 9. 10.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I am using Catalina. I updated to Catalina at the end of 2019. I had no problems with it until about a month ago. The last time I did a Time Machine back up it created another Macintosh HD and another Macintosh HD - Data, so disk utility showed two Macintosh HD's and two Macintosh HD - Data's.

macOS 13.6.7. It is also the first time I have gone to the drive and looked up the backup file to see how much space I have used on the external hard drive. I shows the last update as last night which is correct but the file name is 2011-06-11-093640.inProcess. I went to Time machine and unchecked the auto backup as no data would change during the upgrade.

  8. NAS, network drive & Time Machine - Mac-Forums

Jul 28, 2008. #1. I am looking for a new NAS (any type of network drive). My plan is to have our two Macs (iMac & MacBook) use it for Time Machine backups and also be a file share location (for pictures and documents). I am guessing that I would need to break up the network drive into 3 partitions (with the correct Mac formatting done on them).

But if you follow the recommendation that the EHD for a Time Machine backup should ideally be 1.5x the capacity of your Mac's Drive, then it will take a long time to reach 70% of its capacity. By that time, your TM backups are likely to go back many months, even a year or so. Question: who needs a TM backup dating back 9-12 months, or longer?**

  10. Time machine on Monterey couldn't free space - Mac-Forums

    www.mac-forums.com/threads/time-machine-on-monterey-couldnt-free-space.372008

On my Windows machine I can say get rid of backups older than 90 days. I can't do that in Time Machine so I chose to restrict space to about as much as needed for 90 days. It turns out I had enough for about 4.5 months but the old stuff wasn't deleted. Not being a Time Machine guru I don't know why.

  11. Can't delete Time Machine Backups from Trash - Mac-Forums

    www.mac-forums.com/threads/cant-delete-time-machine-backups-from-trash.344496

I manually deleted a bunch of Time Machine backups from a Seagate USB drive (using Finder). The backups are in my trash, but I can't delete them. I tried the Option Delete and Shift-Option Delete, but I get the same results. The trash emptying process gets stuck after a VERY long time and says it can't delete certain files.
