Any advice from the "pros", "semi-pros" and highly ranked "amateurs" would be greatly appreciated!!! I am not looking to impress anyone. Just looking for a functional fishing boat that can take me where the fish are and interesting places to visit on the middle Allegheny River. I can afford to spend +/-$7,000-$15,000 (obviously used price)
Status: offline. RE: Allegheny River pool 5 boat launches Wednesday, June 20, 2007 4:28 AM (permalink) Buffalo creek dumps into Pool 4 of the Allegheny river. Pool 5 starts at Freeport, lock 5, and extends to Kelley Station, lock 6. The pools are numbered by the lock that backs them up. #5.
RE: Allegheny River Walleye Saturday, June 18, 2011 5:44 AM (permalink) Spend some time catching "riffle runners". They can be caught on a size 22 hook tipped with a maggot. Probably the best Allegheny River bait IMHO. Fish the runners on a size 6 bait hook, and a split shot, sized to match the current. Target any break in current, and any ...
ALLEGHENY RIVER LOCKS. I've fished the locks on the Allegheny since I was 12 years old (I'm retired now at age 67). Mostly fished Locks 3, 4, 6, 8 and 9 and always from shore. I've caught walleye, catfish, musky, bass, and gar plus many other species. I always netted my bait (shiners) from behind the wall on the opposite side of the river from ...
RE: Allegheny River (Freeport) Monday, March 30, 2009 4:42 PM (permalink) If you plan on using the PFC ramp on Buffalo creek, right where it empties into the Alegheny is usualy a good spot for bass & eyes & saugers.Almost every year they catch 10# plus eyes there. Also if you go upstream to the lock,we do well there on the above & also crappie.
RE: Allegheny River at Tarentum Thursday, September 23, 2010 5:10 PM (permalink) You will be hard pressed to find many weeds in that pool. The only area that comes to mind would be a few hundred yards below the Natrona dam on the Burrell side. There is a little inlet with some calmer water that has some weeds in it.
RE: Allegheny River Boat Launches Tuesday, February 15, 2011 6:31 PM (permalink) there is a launch at kittaning in the river front park. on up the river you can launch at cowanshannock creek (as long as the mud is washed off not a bad launch). then templeton has a real nice launch with a dock too. these are the fish com launches that i know of. #4.
Re:Allegheny River at Sharpsburg Launch Monday, October 01, 2012 1:01 PM (permalink) In my position at River Rescue I agree with all that was stated. If you are not familiar with Lock 2 keep well clear of the buoys. All along that stretch from the launch to the point has been producing smallies and walleye.
RE: ALLEGHENY RIVER BAITS ?? Tuesday, May 11, 2010 7:24 AM (permalink) My choices for the river: Super spook, (blue/green on top) 4 inch senko or yum dinger, (white, white silver), green pumpkin or brown tube on jig head or texas rigged, bomber a crankbait (firetiger) dives 4-6 ft., small spinner bait 1/4 oz., fluke (white) 1/4 oz. rattle trap ...
Agreed. The best I've done for Pike in the Allegheny was below Kinzua, as well. This question was asked last year and someone reported catching pike in the Allegheny near Pittsburgh, but I've never personally caught or seen anyone catch a pike in the Allegheny near Pittsburgh. Musky yes, pike no. Between Kinzua dam and Emlenton.
