Had misfires from time to time, but the master blaster ALWAYS worked. It's basically a manual blasting machine like the engineers use to set off demo, but it's permanently mounted. Remember that the 120mm rounds are electrically fired. What looks like a firing pin is a firing probe that directs the electric impulse.
The 120mm armed (A1 & A2 series) have a consumable casing, with a small 'baseplate' (can't remember the. official name for them, it's been a while) that's left over. This 'stub' is kicked out and discarded. The casings being consumable is a good reason that the M1 series uses. the storage capability the way it does.
Leo is better for an offensive tank, diesel engine and longer supply and logistic lines. Abrams is better for a defensive tank, short logistics supply lines. Posted: 11/26/2010 2:08:31 PM EDT. [#9] Quoted: The original Leopard tank was a light tank designed for shoot and scoot tactics.
An Abrams crew died in the invasion of Iraq after their tank went into a river or canal. I can't recall all the details, but I believe it was a Marine crew. The tank landed in such a way that none of the hatches could be opened so the lack of a belly hatch probably played a role. Crew Fatigue was cited as the main cause IIRC.
View Quote. 120 mm M865 / M865IP TP-T rounds are cone stabilized to induce drag and limit range (which shrinks the SDZ to around 7,000 meters). The fin-stabilized 105 mm sabot TP-T rounds travel farther than the 120s because the fins don't induce as much drag. SDZs for the 105 are larger as a result.
And to think that back in 2008, I pieced together an M1 from a bare 1942 receiver and box of mostly-correct parts for ~$500. Damn! Only a couple years prior to that (2005), you could get a Greek-return CMP Rack Grade M1 for $295+ shipping. I remember when the CMP had a sale on Greek Rack Grades for a lot less than that.

The USGI M1 conversion guns are in the $8.5 to $10K range, depending upon manufacturer, condition, etc. At the bottom end of the range are the “commercial” guns (Plainfield, Universal, etc.) These are repro guns made in the 60, 70, & 80s that were converted long after WW2 ended. These commercial guns range from mid $7K to $9Kish.
Expect to pay dearly for one compared to a AR15. M1 Carbines have become collectors items and can fetch good money. They can be had anywhere from $1200-2000 dollar range. They also pop up on the EE here from time to time. Next, older Commercial Carbines. The M1 Carbine was the "AR-15" of the 1960's and 70's.
Well they got back to me and it appears they can do factory direct but its pricey. Something like $3400 for M2 version that can be standalone and mounted, trying to confirm what all comes in package. I did find 2 online for sale on gun broker for about $5700 which is even crazier.
