Thus, in Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue, the item, when picked up, yields 1 Antidote, but in Pokemon Yellow yields 1 Potion. This map was a very sloppy first attempt at documenting every item in a Pokemon game. There are many things I would change on a second attempt, and indeed, already did.

Retro Game Mechanics Explained does a fantastic job of showing the technical side of stuff- i.e. the code- and then breaking it down in a way that a layman can understand. The first half of the video, for me, was pretty confusing, but when he laid everything out and showed it on a "timeline" how the code affected the cries, it all clicked, and ...

  5. Gen 2 is the better generation over Gen 1. : r/pokemon - Reddit

Gen 1 definitely had some QoL issues because it was the first game, but Gen 2's problems are more deeply seeded - an awful level curve because of the "non-linearity", very limited access to a lot of the cooler gen 1 or 2 pokemon, gym leaders barely even using Johto pokemon, a terrible story (rocket stuff) and a barren and underleveled Kanto ...

Pokemon like Sableye, Mawile, Absol, and Pinsir really benefited from Mega Evolution. In Mawile's case, it was introduced in a generation where it didn't have any STAB moves, it gained STAB and Fairy type in later generations, but was still pretty terrible, but it's Mega Evolution turned it into something that was viable and powerful.

  9. Your Best Gen 1 Teams? : r/pokemon - Reddit

Tauros and persian are pretty great in gen 1. Both get a lot of critical hits because of their speed. You could also get a slowpoke or poliwag and level it up until it knows amnesia and bask in the sweet glow of +4 stat boosts since special counts for both attack and defense in gen 1. Reply reply.

  10. Why do people love Gen 1 so much? : r/pokemon - Reddit

    www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/10ez9zv/why_do_people_love_gen_1_so_much

I'm a Gen 1 lover, and I'm pretty certain it will always be my favourite generation. Part of that (maybe a big part) is absolutely nostalgia. A lot of people have a favourite gen that's heavily influenced because it's the first one that hooked them into the series. You can't really replicate that 'brand new' feeling again.

The sprites you think of as "Gen 1" are actually the second generation of sprites. The first two games released in Japan were Red and Green, and was then followed by a slightly upgraded Blue with bug fixes, cleaner code, and a new set of sprites for all 150 pokemon. By the time Pokemon was ready to go abroad, Blue had already been released in ...
