Mound City is a city in Holt County, Missouri, United States, centered near the interchange of Interstate 29 and Missouri Route 118. The population was 1,004 at the 2020 census, [4] down from the 1,159 people counted during the previous census.
Sugarloaf Mound is the only one that remains, of the original approximately 40 mounds in St. Louis. The mounds were constructed by Native Americans that lived in the St. Louis area from about 600-1300 A.D, the same civilization that built the mounds at Cahokia. Sugarloaf Mound is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Mound City station, also known as the Mound City Museum, is a historic train station located at Mound City, Holt County, Missouri. It was built in 1921 by the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad, and is a simple one-story, hollow tile and red brick building measuring 100 feet by 25 feet. It sits on a concrete foundation and has a gable roof.

The Cloverdale archaeological site (23BN2) is an important site near St. Joseph, Missouri. It is located at the mouth of a small valley that opens into the Missouri River. It was occupied by Kansas City Hopewell peoples (ca. 100 to 500 CE). Secondly, it was occupied about 1000-1250 CE, by Steed-Kisker peoples.
The city is on the Mississippi Flyway, used by migrating birds, and has a large variety of small bird species, common to the eastern U.S. The Eurasian tree sparrow, an introduced species, is limited in North America to the counties surrounding St. Louis. The city has special sites for birdwatching of migratory species, including Tower Grove Park.
