The Humane Society of North Iowa was founded in 1959 by Mason City resident Alice Anne Blackmore. Alice Anne found homes for and provided care to many animals on her farm and created the beginning foundations of an animal rescue organization in north Iowa.
The Humane Society of North Iowa adopts hundreds of animals each year to loving, qualified homes. To adopt an animal from us, you are asked to submit an Adoption Application. (get it at the shelter or on the “Application Forms” page)

The Mason City Police Department is responsible for shelter operations, animal control services and enforcing animal statutes in the community. The Humane Society of North Iowa oversees and manages day to day animal care at the shelter and facilitates animal reclaims and adoptions.
