The math comes out to almost 120Mm3 of fuel output from the pump itself, but you also have to figure in pressure loss, and bypassed fuel from the injector when it opens as a certain amount of the fuel coming out of the pump is bypassed back to the tank from the injectors bypass. So after you figure in all of the losses the 120MM3 of fuel ...
Author of The DB2 Conversion Guide. I still get lots of inquiries on how to convert the electronic DS4 pump to a mechanical DB2 pump. As some of you know, I wrote a manual some years back detailing the conversion. Initially, this was sold as a printed booklet, but lately I have been sending it out as a pdf file.
In my opinion, the DS4 is vastly superior in almost every way (minus the rumble and triggers). The dual sense is not comfortable at all in my hands whereas the DS4 felt perfect. I like the DualSense but there is somehting about the fit that it doesn’t rest as well in my hands as the DS4 did.
Stanadyne DS4 in pump-spill mode). Start-of-injection is mechanical so the stresses on the pump are only huge. End-of-injection has some pretty substantial forces associated with it. In-line sleeve pump with prestroke control. Injection quantity is controlled via fuel rack, start-of-injection is controlled by timing rack.
Michigan. Jan 12, 2017. #14. The 6033 pump has the same basic design as any other DS pump, on paper. They changed a few things from what I can tell - to standardize manufacturing process, as referenced by a service bulletin I located for the ds4831-5827 (used in 2004 model year spartan chassis applications apparently).
The DS4-831-XXXX Diesel injection pump is a rotary Distributor-type Solenoid-activated 4 pumping-plunger 8 cylinder 0.31" plunger-diameter model - the four remaining digits denote Stanadyne final calibration specs - it is a constant-beginning variable-ending pump design with three modes controlled by the Fuel Solenoid valve: fill - pump - spill
You can gain a little by switching to the 5068 cam ring, but I hear this is tricky due to a 4° difference in how they are machined. There is also some testing going on with the DS4831-6033 pump which reportedly has a more aggressive cam ring yet. The plunger removal is shown on page 2.12 of your manual, figure 2.81.
May 5, 2020. #5. Depends on the "failure mode". Stick gets physically stuck in downward position: clean the ball shaped surface of the stick and the crack between stick and controller. Strongly press R3 to move stick further inward.
texas. Jul 30, 2009. #5. '92-'93 had DB2-4911 replete with 4L80E trans - is a specific DB2 TPS and stand-alone TCM and wiring harness for those vehicles - can prolly nab a set at a local boneyard - GM had reissued the TCM and prolly the harness, several years back, and is the TCM sold by B&M, TCI, and several others.
Compushift standalone controller for trans=11-1200$. I know Bobbie will chime in on a cheaper way to use GM TCM for the 4L80e but I think I would go with the Compushift for ease of install and more veristillty programming the trans. So I would have a trouble free great running truck for less than replacing the DS4.
